# QRL Hub > QRL Hub is an independent educational resource about the quantum-computing threat to cryptocurrency and about QRL (the Quantum Resistant Ledger), the world's first quantum-resistant blockchain (mainnet live since 2018). It tracks the timeline to "Q-Day" (when a quantum computer can break the elliptic-curve cryptography securing Bitcoin, Ethereum, and most of crypto) and explains why QRL and QRL 2.0 are post-quantum secure by design. ## Key facts - QRL (Quantum Resistant Ledger) launched its mainnet in June 2018 and has been post-quantum secure from its first block, using hash-based XMSS signatures (NIST SP 800-208, RFC 8391). - QRL 2.0 (codename Zond) is an EVM-compatible, Proof-of-Stake, post-quantum blockchain using NIST-standardized ML-DSA-87 (FIPS 204) signatures. Testnet V2 went live March 31, 2026 and passed a Halborn cryptography audit with no vulnerabilities found. - Bitcoin, Ethereum, and nearly all cryptocurrencies rely on ECDSA / Ed25519 elliptic-curve signatures, which a sufficiently powerful quantum computer breaks via Shor's algorithm. - 2026 research (Google Quantum AI, March 30 2026) estimates Bitcoin's signatures could be broken with under 500,000 physical qubits, deriving a private key in roughly 9 minutes. Google set itself a 2029 migration deadline. Expert "Q-Day" estimates now cluster around 2030. - Roughly 6.9 million BTC (including about 1.7 million Satoshi-era coins) sit in permanently exposed addresses that no future protocol upgrade can fully protect. - QRL Hub is NOT the official QRL project.
